Time Difference Calculator
Choose two cities and a date to see how many hours and minutes apart they are, and what 9 AM in one city means in the other.
How the time difference is calculated
Every city has a UTC offset, the number of hours it sits ahead of or behind Coordinated Universal Time. The difference between two cities is the gap between those offsets on the date you choose. Some offsets include 30 or 45 minutes, which is why the result is not always a whole number of hours.
The gap changes twice a year in cities that use daylight saving time, and the two countries rarely change on the same date. For a few weeks each spring and autumn, the difference can be an hour larger or smaller than usual. Pick the exact date of your meeting to see the real gap for that day.
To plan around the gap, start with the meeting planner, which shows working hours for every city side by side, or convert a specific time with the time zone converter.
Frequently asked questions
How is the time difference calculated?
The calculator compares the current UTC offset of each city. The result is the gap in hours and minutes between their clocks right now, and it updates as the time changes.
Why does the time difference change during the year?
When one city uses daylight saving and the other does not, or when both change on different dates, the gap grows or shrinks by an hour. The calculator shows both the winter and summer differences for the pair you chose.
What does the date difference mean?
It tells you whether the second city is on the same calendar day as the first. When the gap is large enough to cross midnight, one city is a day ahead of the other.
